Stories Behind the Milestones
Every year on our timeline is grounded in the people, places, and outcomes that shaped it. Here are a few of those stories.
Assutuare Rice Farmers Rally
In our first year of fieldwork, we mobilised smallholder rice farmers around a shared planting and irrigation calendar, replacing guesswork with a coordinated seasonal plan.
Outcome: 150 farmers trained across 3 pilot communities and a published planting & irrigation calendar adopted locally.
From Bush Remedy to Evidence
Working with international partners, we documented traditional herbal practices — such as bitter leaf for immunity and cannabis seeds for digestion — and paired them with weather-resistant crop trials.
Outcome: Crop diversification programme launched, first irrigation systems installed, and evidence-based herbal use documented.
Solving Swine Fever with Pig Farmers
As market linkage and fair-trade partnerships expanded, a pig farmer pilot tackled the African Swine Fever losses crippling the industry, alongside new community storage facilities.
Outcome: Fair-trade partnerships established, community storage built, and a pig-farming pilot addressing Swine Fever launched.
A Farmer's Phone Becomes a Classroom
We rolled out a mobile app and weather monitoring stations so farmers could access training modules and local forecasts without leaving their fields.
Outcome: Mobile app for farmers launched, weather stations installed, and digital training programmes made accessible on low-end phones.
Scaling Across Borders
Nearly five years after Assutuare, the model of coordinated training, research partnerships and market access has crossed borders — reaching communities far beyond our original pilot sites.
Outcome: 1,000+ farmers trained, 50+ communities served, and 25+ active research projects running across the network.
Our Impact Today
Nearly a decade of dedicated work has resulted in measurable, sustainable change across rural African communities.
Looking Ahead
As we move forward, our commitment to sustainable agricultural development remains unwavering. We envision a future where every rural African community has access to the knowledge, resources, and partnerships needed to thrive while preserving the environment for future generations.
